RetroCtrl - Control Center
The RetroCtrl App lets you enable a "Web Uploader" Service that allows you to upload games and bios files.
It also allows you to change the function of the "P1" and "P2" buttons on the RetroEngine. P1 can be configured as "Power Down" which is the default, or as the "Key Down" button. P2 can be configured as "TAB" or "F12". These mappings, except "Power Down", are regular keyboard keys that can be configured in Emulationstation. TAB is the default system menu key for many emulators, F12 for some others (for example the Amiga). We recommend to leave P1 configured to "Power Down": It allows a safe shutdown from every menu in the system and is convenient when you want to quickly leave an emulator that does not support "Start+Select" to exit. As mentioned in the "Getting Started" section, once you press P1 with the "Power Down" function enabled, you will hear a "beep" indicating the shutdown was initiated. A few seconds later the power will turn off.
In order to use the Control Center App, you need to start the built-in Desktop. The Desktop is just like any computer desktop and is best controlled with a mouse.
Optional: Your smartphone as touchpad
If you don't have a mouse, please download the "Unified Remote" app from the App Store or Google Play. Once Unified Remote is downloaded and installed, go to the Options Menu and select the "Servers" Menu Item:
Unified Remote should find your RetroEngine automatically - as long as your smartphone or tablet is connected to the same Wifi network - just click on it to save the server settings. Now select the "Remotes" menu option and you will get to this screen:
Select the "Basic Input" remote. You will now land on the following screen, which is your touchpad and also provides very basic keyboard functionality (additional functionality can be purchased):
Now we have all the tools necessary to conveniently navigate the desktop interface.
Let's continue from the Emulationstation Game Platform Menu:
Press "Start" on the controller to open the "Main Menu" and select the "Apps" menu item with the "A" button:
After selecting "Apps", select "Desktop" and when asked, confirm that you want to start the desktop:
The desktop will load and you will land here:
Control the mouse pointer with Unified Remote or with a real mouse and start "RetroCtrl" by double tapping or clicking its icon.
Tap/click your desired options. If you enable the Rom Uploader you will see the local IP address of your RetroEngine. Important: The IP only shows if you rebooted your system at least once after the initial install!
By visiting the displayed address with a web browser (from your PC or smart device), you can upload ROMs directly to the correct storage location.
If you did not reboot before starting RetroCtrl and the IP number is not visible yet, as a workaround you can use the IP address displayed for the RetroEngine within Unified Remote to construct the Web Uploader server address: "http://yournumber" (replace "yournumber" with the IP number shown in Unified Remote).
Once you are done uploading ROMs or changing the button configuration, you can return to emulationstation by double tapping the "emulationstation.sh" icon directly under "RetroCtrl".
More Info about Uploading will be available in the upcoming "Uploading ROMs" section.
